"I was going to camp. Since I haven't any money, it would make little sense looking for an inn."
Rayne reached for the coin purse that she had just recently acquired. The other woman was down on her luck and was probably the majority of the reason she had a bad attitude... but then she opened her mouth.
"Then you know all there is to know. We're heading to Ostrheinsburg in search of a sword. That's as simple as it gets."
Nevermind. She again rested her hand on the table next to her cup.
"Please, could you ask Doran how many people fit in our rooms? Perhaps he may give luxury of personal room up for Scarlette? Stay with me?"
Rayne nodded in agreement and turned to Doran to ask. She understood the message for the most part despite the broken French.
"Ede wants to know how large the rooms are that you had reserved for the two of you. Since Scarlette doesn't have any money for a room she was wondering if the rooms would be big enough for you to stay with her and then give the spare room to Scarlette."

Ede wanted to give up one of their rooms? For her?
Scarlette's pride (rather, what little she had) couldn't allow her to accept that. They did just meet, after all. And their comfort was certainly more important than her own. She, in some weird way, brought this whole mess upon herself.
"Oh, no," the red-haired woman began, holding up her hands. "You don't have to do that. I can handle staying outside..."
The statement was true; she had camped without a tent plenty of times in the past, when she had been a mercenary. The only trouble she ever had was finding enough wood to keep her warm for the night.

Doran, of course, couldn't understand a word Scarlette was saying, or he would have happily gone along with her polite refusal. It wasn't that he cared at all about losing his room, he was simply trying to hold on to the last, dying strands of hope that this hastily-convened party wouldn't last the night. Unfortunately, Ede seemed unwilling to relinquish her new friends.
"I'm sure the innkeeper could offer a good price on some room in the stable," he muttered to himself.
Hastily, he spoke again, this time to Rayne, before she could translate his mutterings. He didn't want Ede to be cross with him. "I don't mind giving up the room. As long as Ede can abide my intrusion, I'd rather be closer to her while you types are around, anyways."
In truth, it did give him an excuse to keep a better eye on her safety. Still, he understood that a constant bodyguard can be stifling, and unobtrusive as he was, she probably valued what privacy he could afford to allow her. Not to mention that his sense of propriety did not agree with him staying in the same room with the young girl.

Scarlette had protested the idea, but Doran had given his 'okay' (though Ede was sure there was a great deal of displeasure filtered out through Rayne's translation). She turned to the red-haired woman with a smile.
"There is no need for you to stay outside. You have a room now. Second floor. Third left door."
She spoke matter-of-factly, as though the room was supposed to be hers from the start. With that, Ede finished off her drink in one last, large gulp.
"Do not be feeling obligated to travel with us because of this."
She then spoke to both women:
"We leave early. If you are still interested, find us here or at market."
She had been eager to talk more, perhaps gain some valuable information, but at present, the hostility was high, and the drunken tavern atmosphere was loud and distracting. She would let some rest cool everyone off, and see what tomorrow brought. If she tried to press on, it was clear the evening's discussions were in danger of becoming a lost cause or even violent. And there was much left for her to consider if she found herself forced to select one companion over the other if things hadn't shown any signs of improving.
"Please forgive my early leave. I am not yet good with long travels."
She gathered some of the longer pieces of her silk robes and stood. The only reason she still possessed these and her jeweled earrings and choker was most certainly because Doran was never far. Truly, she did not look as though she was dressed for travel. Perhaps she could remedy this in the morning at the market.

"There is no need for you to stay outside. You have a room now. Second floor. Third left door."
Scarlette shook her head vehemently. "N-No! You don't have to offe--"
Her words trailed off into silence, as Ede stood. It was clear she wasn't going to change her mind now.
"...Dammit, I've been reduced to the likes of a beggar..." she murmured to herself, lapsing into English for the briefest of moments.
She looked at her empty cup, sighed once more, then stood up. If she was going to rise early, she would have to sleep early...
"Good night," came her half-hearted reply, and raised her hand in a lazy wave to Rayne and the other two before she walked upstairs to "her" room.
After she shut the door, she reached up to undo her ponytail, letting her crimson locks tumble down. It was likely to be a tangled mess, especially after her scuffle with her assailant; she ran her fingers through it idly, frowning when they caught on a particularly large knot.
"When I find that damned creature, I'm going to give it a piece of my mind," she grumbled, her face set into a scowl, as she set herself to the task of removing her armor.
----------
She watched the red-haired one stand, and presumed she was turning in for the night.
The dark-haired woman smiled. "Earlier than expected, I see. How fortunate for me." She drained the rest of her glass, settled a considerable sum of money on the bar, and moved to follow.
The blindfolded one weaved her way through the crowd, casting a final glance at the table at which the armored one had sat. The girl and her giant were on their feet, as well; she needed to move fast. She took the stairs two at a time, and her right hand moved to the weapon at her hip to hold it at the ready.
Once Scarlette had ducked into her room, she creeped her way up to the door. Once the armored woman's steps stopped, she silently pushed the door open, unraveled a length of her whip, then rushed ahead and wrapped it firmly around her neck.
"Buenas noches, little butterfly," she spoke, half in Spanish and half in English. "I'd like to ask you something."
----------
She had just set her armor into the corner when the feeling of (what she thought was) a rope around her neck startled her. She would have cried out, if it weren't for the fact that she could barely breathe.
"Buenas noches, little butterfly. I'd like to ask you something."
"It's... hard... to... talk... with... no... breath," she choked out, clawing whatever was looped around her neck.
----------
"It's... hard... to... talk... with... no... breath."
She smirked, leaning in to whisper into the other woman's ear.
"Then you should talk fast, nenita*. The Sword of Legends. What do you know?"
----------
*Nenita: "Little girl" in Spanish. Usually a term of endearment, though in Scarlette's case, it's more of a taunt.

Doran stepped forward to her side as Ede stood, and tossed the room key across the table to Scarlette. He expected her to accompany them upstairs, allowing him to retrieve his own equipment (including his battlehammer and shield which, for some reason, the inkeeper didn't want in his tavern). To his consternation, she instead made a hasty retreat, leaving the rest of them behind.
After watching Scarlette disappear up the stairs, one couldn't miss the blindfolded woman that followed shortly after. She moved quickly and precisely despite the blindfold, which was just plain weird. Then again, to Doran, many people from outside the mountains were just weird.
Rayne looked as if she were preparing to depart as well, so Doran forstalled her by grabbing her by the upper arm. His hand encircled her entire arm, though he was gentle enough not to cause any discomfort.
"Come with us," he instructed her.
Nodding to Ede, he allowed her to lead them up the stairs, at which point he motioned to the closed door of his former room. He banged roughly on the door, then pulled Rayne forward.
"Tell her I need to get my possessions."

Rayne stood up to leave but was then grabbed by the arm.
"Come with us,"
She was slightly confused. It was clear she wasn't staying with them so she didn't know what was going on. After wrapping her belt around her waist and her cloak over her shoulder on one side she came without hesitation... not that she had a choice.
Eventually she was thrown in front of the door.
"Tell her I need to get my possessions."
Rayne threw him a displease look. It wasn't like Scarlette would be thrilled to hear from her. She had just escaped. Rayne spoke up though.
"Scarlette, Doran needs his gear. He left it in the room."

"Scarlette, Doran needs his gear. He left it in the room."
She counted her blessings. For the first (and hopefully only) time, Rayne's voice was something she wanted to hear.
"¡Maldita perra!" The intruder hissed under her breath.
She drew a thin blade from the handle of her weapon, pressing it threateningly against the woman's back as she unwrapped the length from around her neck.
"Tell them you're indecent at the moment," she growled into Scarlette's ear. "Do it."
The feeling of the woman's weapon at her back sent a chill of fear through her. Whoever this attacker was, she didn't seem to be the type to make empty threats.
She cleared her throat.
"Tell Doran these exact words: Give me one moment," she called out, "because my attention is captured by something."
She paused a moment, then added, "This room is so dark; I might as well be blindfolded."
It was at that moment that she felt the breath catch in her throat again, and her head was yanked back.
"Do you think me a fool, nenita?" the blindfolded woman seethed, her voice barely above a faint murmur as she choked the red-haired woman. "Do you think me stupid?"
She held up her weapon in front of the red-head's eyes, then pressed it against Scarlette's jaw hard enough to draw a thin stream of blood.
"I have killed all kinds of men, nenita. Slicing that pretty face of yours clean off your skull will be child's play." The blindfolded woman breathed, and loosened her stranglehold once again. "Send them away. Now."
Scarlette bit back a hiss of pain, and had to take a moment to steady her voice before she continued.
"I-I'll set his things out by the door in a few minutes. I just need to catch my breath."

Ede was busy saying her goodnights to Rayne, so she hadn't thought much of another person retreating to their room at roughly the same time as Scarlette. She blinked in surprise when Doran suddenly grabbed Rayne by the arm. He turned in the direction of the stairs, which Ede took to mean he wished to leave. Even if he needed Rayne to translate for him, there was something in his tone and eyes that suggested something more was wrong. Because of this, Ede walked quickly to their destination. ------------------
She didn't quite understand Scarlette's responses to Doran's request. Ede heard them fine, but the hidden meaning was lost to her, though she could tell there was something...off. She looked to Doran and Rayne to see if their expressions would reveal anything more.

Rayne translated the message word for word. Then added her own two cents to Doran quietly. "Something is obviously up. Hold on I'm going to give her a message."
Rayne spoke into the door in French.
"Don't worry we'll save you the trouble and just pick up his things tomorrow."
She didn't emphasize any particular point just spoke and hopefully Scarlette picked up on the fact that she was going to be saved. She didn't know who she was dealing with and didn't want to give too much away.
She turned to Doran and whispered.
"What are we going to do to save her? I think busting down the door sounds like a bad idea. We don't know what kind of situation she is in."
