Ede accepted her drink with a polite smile, sniffing it tentatively as she made her way back to the table. She reclaimed her seat as Doran set down the mugs. Her cocktail contained a blend of citrus fruits, which was a favorable substitute for her wine. She sipped her drink, quietly observing the interactions of her company.

"Everyone becoming friends already?"
Scarlette couldn't tell for the life of her what Doran was saying, but, judging from the oh-so-delighted tone to his voice, he was pleased with something.
She took her mug with a dark look on her face, sipping her water slowly. She would keep to herself, for now...
But with her temper about to boil over, God help the next poor individual that riled her up.
----------
The woman entered the tavern quietly, her whip and a cloth pouch securely fastened to her hip. She had traveled a fair amount tonight, and had done a fair bit of 'research', so she felt a small celebration was in order.
Granted, most of the research involved a few... bloody interrogations. And more than a few murders... but that was how her search for her prize worked.
And she came out of the messy work with a few metal shards -- they could be useful bartering tools, perhaps.
As she sat down at the bar, she glanced at the tavern keeper, and beckoned him with one slender finger.
"Dame una copa del mejor vino que tienes, por favor." Her voice was smooth and soft.
When the barkeep gave her a look of confusion, she cleared her voice and spoke again, in his native tongue.
"Your best wine. Please."

Rayne waited quietly until Doran spoke up. There would be no changing the mind of the stubborn woman.
"Everyone becoming friends already?"
Rayne turned and smiled. She spoke to Doran first since he delivered the cups.
"No, but not by any fault of my own."
She pulled the cup toward her.
"Thank you very much."
She lifted the cup up to her mouth and took a rather large drink. She then turned to Ede.
"That was exactly what I needed thank you."
She flung one arm over the back of the chair and turned so that she could see both the young girl and monstrosity of a man. She wanted to know more about both of them and what they were doing here, but she decided the polite thing to do would be asking Ede first since she just bought them drinks.
"So Ede, what brings you out here? You seem a far way from home."

"So Ede, what brings you out here? You seem a far way from home."
She stared silently down into her drink for a moment, fixated on the 'far way from home'. She looked up to meet Rayne's eyes as she answered.
"Yes. I am from south beyond Sindhu*. I am expanding travels for experiencing customs."
It was hard to tell whether she was being evasive or simply didn't have the means to express herself with that short answer.
--------------------------------- *Present day India; the term she uses is in Sanskrit, so it may or may not be known to those around the table. History/Geography checks, anyone? xD!

Scarlette ignored Rayne's answer to Doran's inquiry, instead keeping her mouth shut and her eyes fixated on the mug in front of her. Her gaze alone looked like it could crack the container in two; combined with her deathly serious expression, it was clear that she was in not-so-pleasant spirits.
"...I am expanding travels for experiencing customs."
Though she didn't know anything about the area Ede hailed from, she at least had an answer to her (unasked) question.
She hoped that it didn't turn into a round of "Let's find out about one another". Especially if the thief was the one asking the questions.
----------
She took slow, calm sips from her glass, a wicked smirk on her face. She reached behind her head with her free hand, and undid the blindfold to take a better look at the room.
Her eyes were drawn to the large man almost immediately, and she started sizing up each person at the table accordingly:
A young girl who looked much too innocent to be found here; a thief, or assassin, who, judging from what little she had equipped at the moment, was much too confident; the giant that had led her gaze this way, who looked as though he could crush a boulder with minimal effort; and the red-haired one, who looked none too thrilled with whatever was going on, and was staring at her drink as though trying to set it aflame.
"What an odd group," she murmured to herself, the Spanish rolling off of her tongue. "Though, with any gathering of that sort, someone has to know more than the rest of them..."
She placed her blindfold over her eyes again, trying it securely around her head.
She had found her next targets. All there was to do now was to see when they were vulnerable... And she had no problems with watching and waiting.

Rayne took Ede's long gaze to mean she was homesick.
"Yes. I am from south beyond Sindhu*. I am expanding travels for experiencing customs."
Rayne nodded her head as if she knew where she was talking about. It made her start thinking about her family.
"Its hard being so far away from your family. It's been two years since I'm seen mine."
Rayne squeezed the bracelet in her hand a bit tighter and took another gulp of her drink. She tried to change the subject because she could feel the tears welling up.
"So, have you learned a lot from the different customs you've experienced thus far?"

"Its hard being so far away from your family. It's been two years since I've seen mine."
Ede nodded in understanding.
"So, have you learned a lot from the different customs you've experienced thus far?"
A dark shadow fell over the young girls face. With a wry smile, she spoke:
"I have observed repeat of Death and Deceit wherever I go. Universal customs."
She returned to her drink briefly, then spoke again, assuming her usual polite, gentle mood.
"Have you two made arrangements to sleep? We leave early."

"I have observed repeat of Death and Deceit wherever I go. Universal customs."
Rayne's jaw dropped at the response. No young girl. No matter how independent. Should ever have to experience something like that. She was glad though that Ede had followed it up with another question because Rayne, for once, wouldn't have anything to say.
"Have you two made arrangements to sleep? We leave early."
Rayne wasn't prepared for that one either. She didn't want to tell her that she was living under a bridge nearby.
"I... um... yes."
She quickly moved on.
But, where are we going and what exactly are we looking for? I know a sword and I heard the town Ostrheinsburg as well, but exact details I don't know. I don't really need to know the details really... just curious I guess."

"I have observed repeat of Death and Deceit wherever I go. Universal customs."
Ah, so it seemed even young Ede knew of how treacherous the world could be. Scarlette smiled cynically to herself. At least the girl knew that everything wouldn't be friendship and happiness on this trek. It would make it much easier to deal with whatever lay ahead.
"Have you two made arrangements to sleep? We leave early."
She downed the rest of her mug, then answered simply.
"I was going to camp. Since I haven't any money, it would make little sense looking for an inn."
And, she added in thought, now that we've got another one in our ranks, I don't think I'll be doing much sleeping. I'm much too annoyed.
"But, where are we going and what exactly are we looking for? I know a sword and I heard the town Ostrheinsburg as well, but exact details I don't know. I don't really need to know the details really... just curious I guess."
"Then you know all there is to know," she replied sharply. "We're heading to Ostrheinsburg in search of a sword. That's as simple as it gets."
Scarlette, of course, knew that there was much more to it than that. But that was her knowledge, and hers alone; she didn't want others knowing why exactly she was searching for the blade.
----------
The more she saw, the more she studied.
And the more she studied, the more confident she grew.
Though she couldn't hear their conversation, the Spanish woman saw their expressions shift; the thief seemed distraught, while the armored lady's face changed to a cynic mask.
This party was still quite new; and, from her reactions, the red-haired one seemed much too wary of her fellow travelers -- or, at least, of the woman of stealth beside her. Dissension in their ranks would benefit the blindfolded woman; it would make it that much easier to split them up and interrogate them properly.
She smiled to herself, and her hand lightly rested on the handle of her whip.
"You're making this too easy. Let's hope you're much better fighters than you are companions."

"I was going to camp. Since I haven't any money, it would make little sense looking for an inn."
While Scarlette had a cheaper alternative to staying at the inn, Ede couldn't help but notice that she lacked any notable possessions, save the sword, so just where she'd get a tent from Ede couldn't say. She looked back at Doran, as though about to ask him something, but reconsidered her words. Finally, she turned from him and asked Rayne:
"Please, could you ask Doran how many people fit in our rooms? Perhaps he may give luxury of personal room up for Scarlette? Stay with me?"
She turned back to him, awaiting his reaction. Doran had done the entirety of the talking at the front desk, securing them two separate rooms. She wouldn't be so obviously foolish as to invite the newcomer to stay with either of them alone. She had no problem, however, sleeping with Doran in the same room. Her life was in his hands any other time all the same. She had taken Rayne's words as truth, or else she might have tried to accommodate her as well.
