Mio chuckled at the Ecliptian's sudden realization.
"Don't worry. If you just catch yourself after a fall like Honorea, then everything'll be fine."

Rio immediately walked forward.
"I'll take lead."
Rio was cautious as he walked though. With each step he pushed down with his katana like a walking stick.

Unaliari breathed a little sigh of relief. She didn't mind exploring fields for plants, but exploring caves for traps was another story.
"Thanks, Rio."
The alternate hallway was a bit more narrow. Two people could still fit side by side with no invasion of personal space. There was a torch lit at both ends of the hallway. The far end had an actual archway and not just a cavern opening into wider space. There was no door shutting them out, just the frame around the walls. Unaliari followed along behind Rio, leaving him enough space to react while also trying to be on hand in case anything went wrong.
Rio's sword clicked against random sections of embedded rock that were dispersed about the dirt floor. The clicks echoed back down along the hall, though the pitches seemed to come back much higher. About halfway down the hall, Unaliari finally hesitated. Her time as a rune mage, specifically the Braez studies left her the feeling that something wasn't right -- something else was producing the sound...

Mio, following just a step behind Unaliari, apparently wasn't as attuned to her sense of hearing, as she didn't perceive anything out of the ordinary. However, Unaliari's halt was enough to realize that the alchemist found something amiss, so Mio took one more step forward, putting a hand on Rio's shoulder to stop both his walking and tapping.
She said nothing, but gave Unaliari a glance that asked, "What's wrong?"

Rio stopped with Mio's hand on his shoulder. He turned to look at the rest of the group. He knew something was up based on their looks and complete silence. His assumption was Honorea heard something with her elven ears or sensed an animal around the bend. Generally she was quite cautious... assuming she wasn't getting bored walking around a maze of a temple.

Honorea slowed her step and looked at Unaliari and Rio. She wasn't sure if Unaliari was able to tell what it was or not. She listened carefully after their footsteps subsided to make sure she had heard correctly.
Rio's quizzical look meant he assumed she would know better than he as to what was ahead. She made a motion to move forward, but moved slowly. She didn't want to disturb the animals too much in case they carried the same powder on their wings.
At the same time, she didn't feel it necessary to turn around due to the creatures. They had handled them before, and she hoped they would be able to handle them again.
She whispered something in elvish under her breath in hope that the bats would calm down before they even got there so they could look around and/or pass through without getting drugged again.

Unaliari answered Mio's questioning look with a motion to direct her attention back to Honorea. Sure enough, the elf girl had not only managed to pick up on the sound, but it looked as though she understood its origin.
The bats chirped a drowsy response to Honorea's quiet request. Unaliari had not a clue what it might have been, but Honorea had motioned for them to continue on, so she figured it was safe. It wasn't too far to the door anyways -- then they could leave this round of potential trouble behind.

Mio tiptoed behind the three others, for once quiet and reserved, not wanting to disturb the bats. As she looked up at the ceiling, twisting her head to try and gauge their numbers, her foot hit an upturned area of the floor. She stumbled once, arms flailing, and her axe left her hand, falling toward a loud clang on the ground.
Fortunately, Mio's quick reflexes provided her a half-dive and she managed to catch it just an instant before it hit. She looked up with a sheepish grin, hoping that no one else had noticed her trip-up.

Rio continued forward slowly. Now not only does he have to worry about what they may step on, but now he has to worry about above. As they continued down the hallway Rio kept his hand on his book so he could be ready at a moments notice.

Honorea's head quickly whipped around towards Mio as her axe fell. She froze in that split second before Mio was able to catch it again.
Honorea glanced up towards the bats to be sure that they weren't disturbed by the quick movements of her comrades. She had also noticed that Rio kept his hand on his book, probably in case something were to happen. Thankfully, she didn't have the feeling that the bats really cared about who was walking underneath them. But she quickened her pace to arrive at the entrance of the next room, figuring it would be all for the better if they were not surrounded by the bats.
