"N-No!! No, no, no!"
Ede turned, a bitter expression still on her face. She at least knew that one, simple German word. She cursed inwardly, her irritation growing.
Damned manda zruti...
At the sight of the girl waving her hands frantically though, she shook her head, swept away the irritation. This girl before her had done no wrong, at least not to Ede personally.
The distraction from the fight thinned the adrenaline supply in her veins. Jabs of pain began to surge from various sources in her body, the packets of sensory information amassing in her brain all at once. She winced at the initial overload, nearly losing her footing. Returning her attention to where the others faced off with the monster was little help. Her body had given way. As she sank back to her knees, Ede hoped that this final fight had truly turned in their favor...
The lizard's forethought could only go so far -- it had not acted with consideration that Rayne would be able to jump back into the fray so quickly. What had been a successful blow that pushed the giant back was quickly brought to naught when the thief latched onto the creature's back and drove her daggers into its flesh. The lizardman staggered, dropping both weapon and shield involuntarily. It thrashed around in pain, its tail adding an extra danger as it whipped around wildly. With a snarl, the beast blindly lunged at the closest person it faced, who happened to be Doran, with foaming jaws opened wide. Its arms might have been rendered nearly useless, but it could still make use of its teeth.

"Let Doran and I finish this monster off. It's clear you need to rest."
She definitely did need rest. That much was very clear, but Scarlette was in no place to start giving orders. Normally such a request would not have gotten under her skin, but the way that she said it made it seem like Rayne was being punished for smacking a younger sibling. She might as well have said 'Go sit in the corner and think about what you've done.'
"Ede and the other girl are on the side of the road. Wait there with them."
Oh wait. There it was. Rayne stood quickly to run back into the fight but then realized her only blades were still lodged in chest of the lizard man. Now she was stuck. If she didn't fight Doran may think that she had abandoned him. On the other hand, if she did fight she could potentially get hurt badly. She didn't have a weapon and running into the fight would mean she would be fighting at a disadvantage... on top of the fact that she was already injured. Using the little healing knowledge she did have would better serve the group at this point.
"I'm in no way leaving this fight because you've told me to do so."
Rayne ran around the clashing titans toward her fallen ally.

With the monster lunging at him despite Rayne's precision strike, Doran had no time to worry about the rogue leaving the fight. He did have just enough time to slightly release his grip on the hilt of his hammer, allowing it to fall through his open fist until it stopped at the hammer's head. He thrust this into the lizardman's lunge, giving the beast a full mouthfull of tooth-shattering steel. Then, before it could flail around with tail and claws, he threw that arm forward, propelling the beast back toward the (hopefully) waiting Scarlette.

"I'm in no way leaving this fight because you've told me to do so."
Scarlette didn't care what reason Rayne used to justify her leaving the fight; the fact of the matter was, she was out of harm's way. Fighting in her state was beyond foolish.
Rayne's departure left the red-head's attention solely on what was happening between Doran and the reptile. The monster had foolishly leaped toward the giant, and was rewarded for its stupidity; Scarlette could hear the impact of Doran's hammer against its face. And then, he had flung the creature forward, toward her.
To say that she reacted in a casual manner was an understatement. As it hurtled toward her, she dug her heels into the ground and readied herself; mere moments later, when the flung lizardman came into contact with her, she used its momentum to turn in place, with the objective of grasping one of the knives lodged firmly in its chest.
If successful, she would then pull downward on their handles, trying to redirect its momentum in order to drive it into the ground. If not, she would strike at the passing beast with her rapier, intent on giving it another deep wound.
Ede's expression made the younger girl wince. Had she done something to anger her? She was only trying to keep her from aggravating her condition; she didn't mean to be that much of a bother...
Once the robe-wearing young lady had succumbed to her injuries again (which, of course, was exactly what Katrin wanted to avoid in the first place), she turned her attention toward the fight. Scarlette and the dark-haired woman seemed to have had a bit of a disagreement; the armored woman looked detached, and the dark-clothed one seemed annoyed. Regardless, the latter had darted around the fight, and was now headed their way.
She stood off to one side, keeping to herself until she was addressed. Despite her concern for Ede, it was clear that she wasn't exactly welcome in the party just yet.

Rayne, after a brief exchange with Scarlette, was apparently heading over to claim a spot on the sidelines. Ede greeted her with a silent nod, upon which she became aware of the excess of blood that had built up over her eye and now spilled over at the dip of her head. She wiped off the warm liquid with her palm, though it would probably yet be replaced by more. By this time, Doran and Scarlette were finishing up with the reptilian attacker.
The beast had been instantly silenced by the hammer. It might have flown quite the distance with the force packed in Doran's shove, had Scarlette not redirected it to the ground. It twitched in a bleeding heap, though this was more the result of random, misfiring nerves.

Rayne knelt beside Ede.
"Let me take care of that cut so it doesn't get infected."
Rayne reached into her pouch and pulled some clean cloth and another sage leaf out.
"Is there anything else that hurts? Anything else that I can help out with?"
While looking over the young girl, Rayne's emotions started to get the best of her. She wasn't a fighter. That didn't mean that she couldn't hold her own. All of the fights she had had previously she knew that there was no doubt of winning. This was the first time that she had ever feared for her life. The dam that held her emotions back finally broke down and tears poured from Rayne's eyes. The rogue reached out and wrapped her arms around the young girl pulling her in close.
"Ede, I'm so sorry for not being able to protect you."

Finally, the beast lay twitching on the ground, and the fight was over. Doran stood impassively over the mostly-dead beast before bringing his hammer down a final time, shattering the lizardman's skull and ending its death throes. He wiped the gore off of his weapon, marking the battle's end.
The deed done, he stood over the corpse, his eyes not on it, but instead boring into Scarlette's own. He was silent and immobile, his blank expression inscrutable as he spent several very long seconds deciding what he would say. Then again, he was exhausted, and as his battle high waned, he began to feel as if he had been awake for days. And, of course, she wouldn't understand him anyways. Having decided that, he turned away from her without saying a word, and began walking to rejoin Ede. He left Scarlette only a tiny command, his back turned.
"Gehen wir jetzt."

Scarlette's eyes stared into the larger man's for what felt like eternity. She was still quite alert, though she knew the feeling would soon fade.
"Let's go now."
Once Doran turned and walked away, the red-head sheathed her rapier, and followed quite a ways behind. She massaged her shoulder, moved her hand to the side of her neck, and grimly noted the blood staining her fingertips as she pulled away; she must have aggravated her wound whilst fighting.
No matter. It would heal on its own, eventually.
As she took quiet steps toward the rest of the group, her expression was still cold and detached. Her arms rested behind her back, as though awaiting another order.
The display of concern from the darker woman made Katrin's eyes water. She wiped away her tears stubbornly, wanting to avoid any more shows of weakness for the night.
She turned back to the conflict, and was greeted with the sight of Doran's final strike to the beast. Now, with the battle having reached its end, Scarlette and the other man were coming their way.
Katrin assumed that the larger man would be less than pleased with her, in particular. After all, with the timing of the reptilian assault, all of this would have been avoided if she had let them go on her way... or so she believed. Perhaps it would have happened, regardless.
She sank, exhausted, to her knees, rubbing her eyes again.

"Let me take care of that cut so it doesn't get infected. Is there anything else that hurts? Anything else that I can help out with?"
Ede was silent while Rayne treated her. Not intentionally, but she was lost in a private analysis of the situation at the moment.
Despite what misgivings Doran might have had about the party's creation, Ede had not invited these people with the notion that life-long friendships would be forged (though it would make traveling easier if they at least managed to get along). People were tools, and Ede was well aware that she was no exception. Why hire Doran? Simple: she needed a bodyguard. Why would he accept her request? Equally as simple: She was a means of money. Why had Scarlette approached them? Information was her priority, but the encounter with Isabella had thrust Scarlette into a need for safety in numbers. Before Ede could cynically rationalize Rayne's motives, her mind wandered off at "Scarlette". That woman's current descent into the depths of blood lust would, in Ede's mind, doubtlessly lead to her turning on them in some brutal fashion down the road. Nothing new for the world. Not that she would necessarily mean to, but Ede knew of the dark deeds humans were capable of. She would not make the mistake of forming affectionate bonds this time (or so she was telling herself). But, she also wasn't so stupid as to shut out society entirely and miss her chance to make use of others as they did her...
Rayne abruptly pulled her from her downward spiral.
"Ede, I'm so sorry for not being able to protect you."
And yet, despite her reassurance to herself mere seconds ago that she wouldn't let down her emotional guard, Ede found herself returning Rayne's hug. She was hesitant at first, but her rigid posture finally relaxed as she attempted to calm the emotional girl.
Gah, Rayne....This hurts...
But she didn't speak her thoughts, since they would probably send Rayne back into a fit of tears.

Rayne let go of Ede after the young girl responded back. Both hands shot up to her face to wipe away her tears. As she did her face turned bright red. She wasn't usually like this, but it must have all been too much for her to take. She even snapped at Scarlette which is something she never did.
With her emotions back in check Rayne continued to tend to Ede's head. Some mashed up sage and a clean bandage later she would be good to go. The rogue tried to stand up, but was slow in doing so. She touched her ribs gently and stretched to the opposite side. They were going to be sore for awhile.
Rayne stayed close to Ede when she heard Doran approaching. He would have some sort of plan as to what they were going to do next, or at least she hoped so. Then all of a sudden she remembered the other girl. She spoke to Ede.
"So who is she and what's her story?"
