"Hello?"
Looking into the registration booth, and around it, Elieana couldn't find an official in charge of taking participants. Perhaps she was too late? She had waited over an hour for Ariadelle, but her senior had never shown, so she had come herself. If she missed her first chance at combat with true fighters, she would be sorely disappointed.
Looking into the large, natural valley arena, the Ecliptian noticed something peculiar. There were only a handful of compatants, not counting several injured and otherwise incapacitated. Was this a good or bad sign?
Regardless, she was not going to miss today due to being an hour or so late. Moving through the gate, her cape flowing lightly behind her, the young woman took account of the situation, before deciding on the nearest quarry--two girls locked in early combat. One was coming up from shadows on the ground, her hands locked around the ankles of her rather disinterested looking opponent. Hopefully they wouldn't mind a little interruption.
With the tiniest of thoughts, and a small, though unnecessary motion of her hand, the grass that surrounded the two (that not hidden in created-shadow) burst forth into thick vines, ensnaring the legs of the standing girl and the hands and wrists than held them. Following their creator's order, the vines forced the two apart, attempting to pull the one girl out of the ground. How, and whom, responded to this interruption would determine how Elieana's fight would progress.

Raven was sure that her surprise attack was going to land her opponent on her face. She was ready to quickly ascend after having a firm grip on her ankles when all of a sudden she was in for a surprise herself. At this point there wasn’t much that she could do so she allowed herself to be pulled up above the ground. As she was completely pulled from the earth the shadow seemed to shrink to nothing allowing the grass to again be seen.
The second her eyes were above ground level she immediately began searching for what was forcing her to do things against her will. Fortunately, for her it wasn’t hard to see that the ground that surrounded her had turned into overgrown possessed weeds. She flew into the air pulling at the vines that were tightly wrapped around her wrists. Around her two weapons, a katana and an axe, were quickly enveloped by a shadow. As if a giant had taken hold of the weapons they swung ferociously through the air cutting the vines. Before anymore of the vines could grab her, Raven jumped back several feet. The two weapons that had just saved her were now spinning in circles and rotating around her in a figure “8” pattern. She quickly searched for who might have caused this attack.

The lack of the ofuda released the fire from its enchantment – no longer a fierce threat seeking her blood, the flames shot forth through the air at their own leisure. Their fury was halved, though it was phoenix fire all the same. With the battle ahead of her, Dota left her ring for later emergencies. She’d used up her evasion opening with the ice wall and ofuda; the flames rained down upon her. It was the years of torturous training with her family that allowed her to remain focused, if only for a moment longer. She expected a follow-through from her opponent, though from where was hard to tell amidst the chaos of fire, smoke, steam, ice and whatever else was flying about the arena at this point. For that reason, she wouldn’t leap blindly in any direction. Instead, she’d have to rely on the fire for her next strike. Fire, brought out…her. A crimson hue bled over the irises as Dota brought her hands together in a strong clap. The pause was millisecond-brief before she threw her arms wide. Following with them was the fire, exploding off in every direction with a force as strong as when it had first arrived. Trailing behind the flames was a gale as sharp as Dota’s ice spears. It had sent the fire on its way, and was tailing it like an aftershock of sorts, clearing the area for its mistress, Omega.

Through the steam surrounding him, and the flames just below him, Blu could see nothing. If Dota was not standing where she had been before his vision was obscured, his attack would miss, but this was something he was fully expecting. What he was not expecting was to find himself moving suddenly against gravity, rather than with it.
That, however, was exactly what happened. In a sudden intense burst of air, the steam and fire that swathed the Blu’s vision were violently gusted away, and the kanji mage with them. Thrown head over heels several times through the air, he had no control of his landing, and bounced roughly off of the ground. Stabbing his katana into the ground after he finally halted, he used its support to stand.
His opponent was changed. A crimson fury bled from her eyes, and she looked… different. Truthfully, other than the dark color in her eyes, her appearance was unchanged. But regardless, her demeanor was somehow even more unnerving than before. Blu had no idea what was happening, or how the ice being had survived the Phoenix’s inferno unscathed, but he didn’t have the leisure of asking, either.
The warmth on his forehead had informed him that he had not survived his rebound off of the ground unscathed. Of course, to a kanji mage, personal injury was perhaps one’s greatest asset. Dabbing a finger in the blood, he took advantage of his newfound distance from Dota in order to ordain his soft leather boots with some new decoration. His left received the symbol of “shift;” his right, “sprint.” This combination tended to be a short-lived one, as it was rather taxing on the body, but a few seconds was all he required.
Pressing off of the ground, he set toward his opponent at full speed. Enhanced by the kanji, his movement was nearly untraceable, afterimages appearing from millisecond to millisecond in a random zig-zag pattern intended to confuse, until he was mere inches before her. Feinting a low horizontal swipe with his blade, Blu instead leaped over her head, though it would appear he simply disappeared, reappearing behind her before the previous afterimage had even begun to fade, and making a diagonally downward swipe at her shoulder.

The young hooded girl had sliced away the vines holding her, and the other female Elieana simply tossed aside, releasing her. If she chose to retaliate, the Ecliptian would be prepared, but for now, she was more interested in the other. A conjurer of some sort, with an obvious affinity toward shadow—she would serve as an interesting contrast. A sharp gust of air hit Elieana, apparently emanating from a winged woman in the distance, and due to the distance she barely needed to steady herself. The winged one seemed involved with a white-robed man. Behind them, two disquietingly-large beasts squared off. The Phoenix appeared to have another man alongside it. Hopefully the creatures would stay involved with each other for the time being.
Holding out her hand, Elieana allowed the grass directly below it to grow up and engulf it, thickening into dozens of twisting, intertwining, vines. Their cell walls fortified with enhanced cellulose, the vines became as hard as steel, with two-inch thorns protruding in every direction. They finally grew out of the ground, separating themselves from the grass, and each end tapered into a deadly-sharp point, the center of the weapon thinning into a handle which the alchemist held tightly. After mere seconds, she now held a double-sided, thorny blade.
“I’m right here,” she called to the girl in the dark cloak, though after the growth of her weapon, it was hardly necessary. “I’m ready for whatever you can throw at me.”

Raven did take notice of the newly formed weapon as the gust of wind caught her long dark hair. A cocky smile came to her lips as she threw out her left hand without hesitation. The shadow covered axe immediately stopped in mid spin and flew forward in the air. Unfortunately, it didn’t head for her opponent. With a confused look Raven watched the spinning axe head out into the horizon. A little embarrassed Raven concentrated on her next attack. This time she lifted both of her hands into the air. Both hands seemed to glow with shadowy energy (if shadow could glow) that seemed to drip off of them and fall into oblivion. Now the katana that was spinning around her shot forward. End over end it flew straight towards her new adversary only feet from the ground. The blade continued on its path without hesitation with a trail of shadow behind it.
Raven fully expected such an easy attack to be jumped over. The surprise was the axe that she “lost control over.” After reaching the wall of the battle grounds if flew over it and began to head back for the gate. By the time the katana had reached the new vine wielding foe the axe was also spinning ferociously towards her back through the entrance. Only instead of being a few feet off the ground the weapon arched upward to catch the girl if she were to simply jump over the katana.

As the conjured axe flew off from the battle with no discernable direction, an equally confused and amused look crossed Eleana’s face. It was when the katana was hurled in a more proper direction—namely, straight at her—that her manner became all-business.
Here was where the Ecliptian’s greatest character flaw became apparent. Normally a good-natured and even slightly deferential girl, when in battle, she had a tendency toward arrogance. Without batting an eyelid, she swung her vine blade in an upward arc, deflecting the katana easily above her head. Simultaneously, a singular column of wood sprouted forcefully from the ground behind her, knocking the returned axe into the air alongside the katana, so that the two collided.
“Come now, girl,” she taunted, practically spitting the word. “I learned to deal with parlor tricks like yours around the same time I learned to walk.” When taken by her battle-temper, exaggerations became somewhat commonplace.
As the barb was spoken, the shadow-enveloped weapons had fallen together back to chest-level. Swinging her weapon like a bat, Elieana sent the two hurtling back to their master. Since challenging her opponent in the first place, her feet had yet to move in the slightest.

A smirk came across her face when the two weapons were now turned against her. With the smallest push Raven redirected the weapons only mere inches but the distance traveled caused them to miss by several feet.
“You blocked that fairly easily.”
Both of Ravens hands continued to glow with the shadow energy. Her hands were now facing her opponent with her elbows locked. A one hundred foot section of the wall behind her foe was soon enveloped in a black mist. Clenching her fists and bringing her hands back in caused the great wall to crack under the strain of her power. As she extended her fingers and lifted her palms the wall began lifting from the earth. Slowly she lifted the heavy wall as dirt and excess debris fell from it. Behind the wall the towns people that were still left quickly vanished now that their last line of defense was gone. Animals that once called this unmoving fortress home were now scurrying about looking for new shelter.
“Dodge this! AZARATH METRION ZINTHOS!”
The jewel on her forehead shone brightly with an eerie red glow. Clenching both fists as if she were grabbing the wall itself she threw them down. The wall then acted in the same manner, crashing to the ground right where the brown haired sorceress, with a green thumb, was standing. Right before the impact the shadow released itself from the wall. Raven stood staring into the cloud of dust waiting to see what had come of it.

Some time had been bought with the success of the sudden windstorm. As the kanji mage was tossed aside, the winged girl (who, though still visibly resembling Dota, will now be referred to as Omega) took the moment to recover from the inferno. She drew in a deep breath, calming herself…focusing. She was ready for his return -- and, much to her delight, he’d managed to hasten himself beyond what she had thought mortals capable of (she’d made the assumption on the “mortal” part…). Not having to be bored with the wait of his arrival, Omega sprang back into a crouch with cat-like grace as the after images danced before her. She leapt in time with his feinted horizontal swipe, taking enough time to allow his transition behind her. With a twist mid-jump, Omega stretched taut before her a blood-red line... it might have resembled rope if it had not emitted a glow that left the impression of pure energy. She thrust her arms out, letting Blu’s blade connect and parry solidly against the coil of energy. She had added extra force to shove the blade backwards. A moment of recoil and Omega dropped the “rope” from her left hand. It became flaccid for an instant before the tail caught up with the swing of her right hand, which still held on firm. With a snap of her wrist, the energy-rope came alive as a whip…its bite aimed at the mid-section she’d tried to expose in the deflection of the mage’s blade.

The fire from the phoenix’s tail rained down upon the dragon. Though it had no wings, the dragon rose into the air as easily as a snake glides over smooth earth. The raging inferno leapt hungrily around the tail of the dragon, threatening to consume it. Though the tail shrank…dripped….the steam that rose upward with the dragon stayed near as though drawn to it instinctively. Once high enough, the steam condensed, recrystalized back from whence it had come. The shape was not the same, however. Instead, the crystals had frozen jaggedly onto the tail. As the dragon had risen beneath the phoenix, it took on a quick course to follow it, whipping around once in range to tear its newly adorned tail up through the heavens towards the legendary bird.
