Warm Up

Dota has been wandering about prior to the battle for some time now. It was refreshing to see not only the myriad of battles that raged on before her, but to feel the familiar auras dancing about the air added to her pleasure today. How fortunate she’d been for these two to enter the ring with her. It stirred up the old thirst for blood that could be taken as vampiric if one were to categorize.
From a distance, she’d taken in a few moments of their individual battles, debating if she should reveal herself to end the game and cut to the bloodshed. Her hand was going for her hood when she realized an approaching voice was addressing her.
"You know, it would be a shame to see someone so pretty as yourself get hurt here today. I'd be happy to escort you during your stay."
Her hand was delayed a moment as her cat pupils shifted under the shelter of the hood to inspect the man advancing. They then fell upon the carcass encased in ice, lingering as if to tell him to take note.
“I think you know what’s coming.”
The hood was finally withdrawn from its seat upon her head. It had concealed the dark strands that shimmered purple in certain angles of light…strands that usually hung down to the small of her back, but were now securely held in two buns out of the way. Today, a set of white gems decorated them. Her eyes, now lit in the daylight, reflected back a shimmering emerald hue. The usual fang rested on her lips, unable to behave accordingly as the rest of her more modest teeth managed. The set of elven ears topped off the image of the girl, save one more feature that clung to the safety of the cloak which still had its knot intact. The mandarin collar that went with the rest of her dress had also become visible.
Her eyes narrowed, sending a small chunk of ice erupting from the ground between them, closer to herself. It was to see how much he understood, for as far as she knew he was just another inexperienced fool. The next chunk of ice shot up to his left…no more than a foot or two in height just as the first had been. This one had been slightly delayed; however, the next one picked up the pace, shooting up to his right before the second had even finished. A fourth and a fifth, then a sixth, all came jutting up from the ground staggered around where he stood. A few rose dangerously close, but none had actually gone for flesh…yet.

Blu stood absolutely still. As the small pillars of ice rose closer and closer, his eyes paid no heed, staring confidently into those enthralling catlike pupils. Blu was quite intrigued. His arms rested at his sides, a single finger moving slightly against his robes.
After the sixth pillar rose, this one coming so close as to brush against his robes, they stopped. They were meant to insure that he was not another pitiable weakling out of his league. He would make it clear that he was not. His smirk grew wider.
"Yes, I think I do know what's coming. Well--I can deduce a bit, at least. The thing is, you have no idea what's coming."
As the final word left his mouth, a weak sonic pulse radiated from his body, the exact frequency required to shatter the pillars surrounding him in an explosion of glinting shards. Bursting forward with near-inhuman speed, Blu passed through the shrapnel, the tiny pieces of cold matter ricocheting harmlessly off of his form. He ducked low, feinting a punch at his opponent's midsection, only to suddenly jump upward and bend the punching arm so that the elbow raced wantingly toward her unblemished face.

Now there was a turn of events. Perhaps she’d become a little too overconfident these days. Nah…it was the rest of the newbies creating the bad image here. But here Dota stood with her ice shattered…and not by her. Not only that, but now this man was rushing her head on. With that abrupt move, she’d reacted on last minute reflex rather than assessing the advance, so she’d taken his initial “attack” at face value, intending to stop the blow to her midsection.
She hadn’t completely missed his change in direction though. A lean to her left rewarded her not with a blow that knocked her straight back, but one that sent her continuing in that sideways motion. Twisting with the force of the hit and the fall, Dota managed to catch herself on her ground with her palms. This left her legs, which were by now following the rest of her with no other real option, rising in an arc towards him. She’d thrown her right leg out at him in a sharp snapping kick that would hook and drag him down in a vicious swipe if left unchecked.

It was glancing, but he had hit her. That was quite a bit more than Blu had expected. Likely, she had assumed him to be the same as the rest of the masses gathered, and he had surprised her. He knew she would not make the same mistake again--his advantage was closed, but he was never counting on it in the first place.
Since he had been expecting an easy dodge, Blu was more than prepared with the slightly-more delayed kick she threw at him. Still a few inches off the ground from jumping at her, his hands grasped her shins, allowing her legs to carry him with them in their arc. When his feet were within range of the ground, he planted them firmly, and twisted her body through the air by her legs, aided by her own momentum. He released her straight upward, awaiting her to plummet back to the ground, entirely unaware of just how much airborne control she concealed within her cloak.

The last thing that Cloud expected from the Hell-sent was to let either of those men go unharmed. In fact, it was his intention that his work would be done for him. Cloud was not here to kill mindlessly — if he was, he would have found himself rising from the pit of Hell instead of descending from the heavens. This circumstance, however, allowed Cloud to be rid of the troublesome headstrong warriors on a technicality.
He watched both men be effortlessly, though spectacularly, disposed of — specifically, discarded at a high velocity at his direction. It was no great feat for him to simply catch them both by their collars and halt any further flight they may have had. Still, his eyes never strayed from the one that had done them in. Cloud did not return his victims in a retaliatory throw, and rather decided to drop them at his feet with disregard for their injury.
Several considerations crossed his mind at this point. Why had the demon not done more, following up with an attack using the other men as an attacking advantage? Was he on relatively good behavior, or did he have an ulterior motive? In all honesty, Cloud could have mulled over this chain of thoughts until the sun went down and not have come to a satisfactory conclusion. This one was not of his prime concern in the first place. Thus, he would leave him for now, heading out into the fray to find her, if indeed she was present.

The brief time that his hands had made contact with her skin was just enough to leave him with that feeling as though he’d been outside on a snowy day for some extended time without gloves - the same cold feeling that became a burning sensation once you had returned indoors. There hadn’t been any damage to his skin or nerves, only the small taste of greater possibilities. That, and his skin may have turned a hint of red for a short duration as it readjusted temperature.
She had expected worse. More precisely, she’d expected to be flung into the ground quite violently…and from previous experiences, Dota had found the ground didn’t care to move out of the way for much of anything.
With a quick tug on the ties to the knot, the cloak came off completely, sliding around her body to be flung back in the man’s direction, as though she’d expected him to leap up after her. She had never begun her descent to the ground, for now a set of snow white wings stretched open behind her in the absence of the fabric. The wings had a span out of arm’s length before a connecting joint brought them back in on a curve. The thick layer of feathers, ranging all sizes and textures depending on their location were inviting in their soft purity, but her eyes now burned in contrast.
The cloak was cutting through the air rather rapidly, behaving unlike ordinary fabric which would ripple and twist in the breeze no matter how hard one threw it. At about the midpoint between Dota and her opponent, the cloak, at full span, shattered at her beckoning, turning from one projectile into a dozen or so of various sizes. They all shared one trait: jagged edges that streaked through the air with a lust for blood. Their path was simple, if the man had leapt at her, he’d be struck instantly. If he’d only stood there, the same fate remained.
And so it was that the Ice Goddess was revealed in her entirety.

It was the first thing he noticed—his hands were quite chilled by her skin. Thinking of the human ice treat behind him, that didn’t surprise him so much. It was the second thing that surprised him—she didn’t seem to be coming back down. No, she definitely wasn’t coming back down. The ties to her cape were undone, the cloak swinging off of her body. Wings? Where did people get these things?
Ignoring that small fact for the moment, Blu decided that it would be wise to focus on the shards of what was once her cloak that seemed rather intent on landing where he stood within the next millisecond or so. As he had been expecting her to come back down to him, he hadn’t initially jumped to follow her, leaving him able to react to this new threat. Leaping instinctively backward, he flipped to land on his hands, and then pushed into another backward leap from this position. As soon as his feet touched the ground, he launched himself into a high forward jump, barely clearing the small projectiles to land directly under his opponent. He felt a sting on his right hand, and looked to see a lightly bleeding gash along the back of it. Apparently he had not cleared them quite so completely as he had thought.
Looking upward to the girl hovering above him, Blu was immediately struck with the perfect method of making this battle all the more enjoyable. He already felt his excitement rising, enlivened by such a powerful opponent. Smiling leeringly up at her from directly underneath, he laid the snare.
“Purple, huh? Good choice—it complements your dress purposely.” Winking outwardly, he inwardly prepared his body for action. If that didn’t incite her anger, nothing would.

Trunks watched as his fellow combatant caught the two men that he just threw. He expected as much from someone with that much power. What he didn’t expect was what he felt next. An aura that was all too familiar. He turned his head to look but only saw black shards flying at an unfamiliar man. Then he looked up and saw her, his old sensei. With her wings spread and her purple hair there was no doubt that it was her.
“Kahhhhhh… Mehhhhhh… Hahhhhhh… Mehhhhhh… Hahhhhhh”
As the saiyan prince turned to see who was screaming the all too recognizable chant it was too late. The bright blue ball of energy was right there connecting with his midsection. Completely caught off guard he was sent flying back heading straight for the wall that kept all of the warriors in. Within seconds Trunks was through the wall. Stones and pieces of the once fortified wall were now laying out in the courtyard right outside the gate. The crowd that was once standing there was now running at top speed for safety. Many people weren’t lucky enough to be running away from the small explosion. Some of them were hurt but a few of the more unfortunate had died due to falling debris. Of course this didn’t really bother the hellish saiyan. As he stood up brushing himself off he looked for his attacker. By that time he was already running. The fellow saiyan was heading straight for the woods on the far side of the arena. In a fit of rage Trunks took off after him. Flying only feet from the ground he left a trail of fire in his wake. Finally, his image disappeared into the woods where the fight would continue. Nothing was going to stop him now.

She blinked, her eyes widening in surprise. It sure as hell wasn’t the fact that her attack wasn’t a huge success or even the fact that this person was keeping up with her. It was most definitely the comment. Though her dress was her preferred attire, no one had ever actually mentioned its one design flaw. And to hear it from this newcomer…
Coming back to her senses, her eyes narrowed back to their piercing glare, which began the change of the weather in the immediate area. A blinding frenzy of snow swirled around the ice goddess and her prey – a whiteout in the most select of areas. The force of the wind by itself was enough to add a stagger in one’s step, should they get careless. It also made seeing a difficult task in its sporadic directions and fury. This was aided by the fact that the ground had frozen over solid in a span of 10 feet in any direction due to that one angry pair of eyes. In an instant, 40 to 50 square feet had been turned into an arctic terrain…all thanks to one sly, perverted comment.
Dota began her descent shortly after the onset of the new weather patterns – leaving no time for adjustment. It was quick, as though not only had she allowed herself to drop, but had added to the force. With this, she brought her right elbow crashing down, backed by her left arm which lent its strength towards stiffening it. Her sights had been set on planting her elbow into the intersection of his coronal and sagittal sutures upon his skull.
His taunt had worked, for now to contribute to the overall chaos, the force of the ice goddess’s return to earth had cracked and split every bit of ice. This left the ground broken, jagged and uneven. At least her shock wave had also succeded in scattering the snow to the far reaches of the ice ring where it fluttered carelessly to settle where the ice and earth met as though it had been a gentle flurry from the start.

When Blu saw her strike, he dared not attempt to dodge in the sparse time he had—the newly-present ice beneath his feet would not allow for such a maneuver. The fact that he hadn’t even deciphered what she was doing through the snowy shroud until after she initiated the attack also put that idea out of his mind almost simultaneously to its entering in the first place. There really seemed only one option open to him.
Leaning backward as quickly as he could, he threw both hands upward to catch her elbow. He was forced to one knee almost instantly, the surrounding ice shattering with the force she threw him down with. For a split second, both combatants seemed to pause in this position, but Blu felt his legs about to give out, and so pushed off her elbow, using the slippery ground to his advantage as he slid under her, flipping up to his feet as soon as he cleared her strike zone, letting her collide with the ground.
Putting a few steps distance between them, Blu smiled. This was no cocky smirk this time, but one of acknowledgement. Her slight frame belied the amount of power she really had—she was more than a match for him in power, and likely equal, at least, in speed. He would ultimately have to rely on other methods for victory.
With a shiver, Blu shook the snow from his robe. “This morning, I swore I’d roast in this thick wool. Now you’ve got me hoping it’ll keep me warm enough.” He looked at the back of his right hand and chuckled wryly. The blood from his gash had frozen solid. He had come into contact with her skin again—this was starting to become a nuisance. With a sharp smack, the ice shattered, tearing the unhealed endoderm it was attached to and starting the bleeding anew. His hands came together, nearly a blur, and when they came apart just a few seconds later, he held them facing her, palms outward. Two red symbols resided on them, written in his blood. One was the kanji for “ice,” the other for “ward.” It wouldn’t stop a projectile, but against her chilling touch, it would be enough.
Running now toward her, lest she initiate another attack, the kanji mage leapt into the air, spinning and extending his leg as though a high-speed kick would be coming at the winged ice maiden. Instead, an arm went inside his robe, and a long steel chain snaked out, a rather large and wicked-looking curved blade residing at the end of it. Blu himself still soaring through the air, the lashknife curved upward from the ground in a crescent-moon sweep, a surprise attack that would strike no more than a couple of seconds after the weapon first appeared.
