"Thank you, but I think I'll stand. I'm clearly not welcome there."
No, she most certainly was not. Scarlette did not associate herself with those that entered conversations without being invited, nor did she speak to assassins and other untrustworthy sorts.
Unfortunately for Rayne, she was both. And that combination of traits did not sit too well with the red-headed woman.
She leaned back in her chair again, crossing her arms once more. Now that Rayne was possibly joining them, she had half a mind to set out again on her own. She'd tolerate as many ambushes and as many setbacks as need be -- as long as she wasn't anywhere near that woman!
"I do apologize, but I didn't catch either of your names."
She gave the woman a cold glance, turning to face her as she answered.
"Scarlette Blanc."
Her voice was cold like ice and as sharp as a blade, a stark contrast to the warm enthusiasm she held in her voice whilst speaking to Ede. She had no intention of being friendly with this newcomer, no matter what sort of skills she had.
She turned back to Ede just in time to hear her ask her question.
"What would you like?"
"Water, thank you." Her tone when addressing Ede was still as pleasant as ever -- after all, the young girl wasn't the cause of her displeasure. It wouldn't make sense to take it out on her.

"I am Ede. Possibly I could be buying a drink to you?" "Scarlette Blanc."
Not only could she hear the hate in the woman's voice, but she could almost feel the negative energy flowing over to her. Maybe this was the opportunity to have a one on one with this woman and see what her issue was.
"Beverages."
She saw that Ede was speaking to the large man and then turned back to her and Scarlette.
"What would you like?"
Scarlette answered first.
"Water, thank you."
She hadn't been hired as an interpreter yet, but Rayne wasn't shy especially when it involved helping someone out as nice as Ede. Who knew what the bartender would speak so she wanted to make sure the transaction went as smooth as possible.
She turned toward Doran, but spoke to him in German.
"You're gracious companion here has offered to buy us some drinks. Scarlette has asked for water and I would like an ale."
Rayne responded to Ede but spoke slowly again.
"I would like an ale if you don't mind.Thank you so much for offering."
I just want to make it clear. Mostly because I'm tired of typing it, but if I'm speaking to Doran it's in German. If I'm speaking to Scarlette or Ede it's French.

Doran prepared to follow Ede up to the bar, leaving Scarlette and Rayne to occupy the table alone (unless some fool drunkard took Doran's absence as an opportunity--the reception was likely to be entertaining indeed). He left the two behind with his first smile of the evening--they were sure to enjoy a little alone time together.
"Haben sie Spaß."

"Haben sie Spaß."
Scarlette didn't need to understand what the larger man had said -- the small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth were enough for her to catch his meaning.
She forced a small smile in return, though that quickly faded as Doran followed his charge to the bar.
Now she was alone. With Rayne. Heavens above, grant her patience.
She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, shutting out the noise of those around her. If she could just ignore the woman's presence, she could keep herself calm.

Ede nodded at both women, then turned to head for the bar. She paused briefly, realizing she could have taken advantage of Rayne's eagerness to put her bilingual skills to work. She still had to inform Doran that he was free to order whatever he liked, and she finally wanted to get something to her liking, specifically, a glass of wine. 'Ale' and 'water' she could handle in German. 'Wine', however, was beyond her. And she didn't know the terms for 'grape' nor 'fermented'. Thus far, she hadn't bothered trying to convey the idea, possibly out of shyness of the slight, embarrassing strain it takes to work through the guessing game. Even then, success is not guaranteed.
During her walk over, she cooly retrieved a satchel of money from within her robes. She removed an estimate of the tab in copper coin which she'd slip to Doran before they would reach the bar. As she handed him the money discreetly, she said to him:
"Du trinken..."
...but she did not know the word for "also".

"Haben sie Spaß."
Rayne turned to Doran as he left, smiled, and waved. "Danke"
She reached down into one of the pouches on her belt and removed a small black cord. She wrapped it around her hair and tied it into a ponytail. She pulled her seat out and a little away from Scarlette then sat down. With her seat a little away from the other woman it would be easier to look at her as she spoke to her.
After Scarlette took her deep breath Rayne began.
"So, we've gotten off on the wrong foot apparently. I'm sorry if I've wronged you in some way."
Rayne may seem like the typical thief, but in truth she only did what she had to and was truly a loving person. She just had to make people understand that and ignore the thief stereotype.

"So, we've gotten off on the wrong foot apparently. I'm sorry if I've wronged you in some way."
"Don't apologize."
She kept her eyes closed, her voice almost too calm as she spoke. "I couldn't care less for getting off on the 'right foot'. The fact of the matter is, you made quite the rude entrance, butting in like that."
With her eyes still closed, she let her body slump forward, and leaned her head back against the top of the chair. Her eyes opened halfway, staring at the ceiling of the tavern disinterestedly.
"Whatever reason you've got for inserting yourself into my business is yours and yours alone, however, so I won't bother asking why you took interest."

Rayne smiled as Scarlette spoke of being rude, but refused to look at her. There was really nothing she could do but make her next point.
"Truth be told the big guy over there is the one that first started talking to me. I was sitting by myself at my table."
With Scarlette not looking at her she was able to better hide her twist in the truth. Rayne wanted to say more about how Scarlette randomly came over to Ede's table uninvited but kept that to herself for now.

"Truth be told the big guy over there is the one that first started talking to me. I was sitting by myself at my table."
"You likely did something to gather his attention. And even then, that didn't mean you could interrupt my conversation with Ede."
She cast a hateful glance at Rayne. People of her... profession weren't exactly honest. She had heard enough lies and misinformation to last her a century, even before meeting her; everything from the other woman's mouth had to be taken with a grain of salt.
"And, before you get any ideas about comparing my actions to yours, I at least made sure that she wasn't busy."
The calmness she held for that brief moment had flickered away, like a candle flame was blown out. Every word that came from her now was spoken in an irritated tone. Being impaled on her own rapier would likely put her in a better mood than this conversation did.
She was half-tempted to try it.
"Now, if you wouldn't mind, I'd like to wait for my drink in silence." Scarlette finished, the corners of her mouth pulled into a displeased scowl.

Doran could hear the two women from the bar. Well, he couldn't hear Rayne, but Scarlette was getting loud enough for the both of them. They might be a burden, but at least they were entertaining. He really was beginning to hope some drunk idiot would try to pick up Scarlette--not only would it be hilarious to watch her impale him, it would be an excuse to remove the both of them from Ede's newborn "party."
For now, he ordered the drinks--a water and two halb-dünkel for himself and Rayne. He had no idea what Ede would want, so he requested "something gentle for the young lady," and was given a cocktail of some sort. He could only hope it would be to her taste as he handed it to her.
Two flagons of beer and a water in hand, he nodded to Ede and they returned to the table, setting down the drinks.
"Everyone becoming friends already?" he asked Rayne with obvious pleasure.
