Rayne stood back after the order from Doran. Ede made her job that much easier by laying down. The exhaustion was really getting to her as well. She couldn't wait to sleep.
Rayne debated on throwing her cloak on top of Ede for the time being while she slept outside. It seemed to her that she would be going over the top with that. The fact that she already bawled in front of the poor girl was probably enough to made Ede want rid of the emotional basket case. The rogue just kept her post watching for anything out of the ordinary.

"Katrin and I can scout the building. Rayne, I'd like you to stay with Ede..."
The younger warrior had started scouting the building before Doran had even finished speaking to the other woman. By the time the larger man had finished speaking, she had checked the immediate area around the building, and was opening the door carefully.
The first sight that greeted her were the dust covered, partially broken tables that were decorating what was once a tavern of sorts, along with footsteps along the dirty wood floors, from the time she had spent here. She took a tentative step inside, though she looked at Doran to make sure he would be following behind.
Scarlette heard her name in whatever Doran had said. Was there some problem he had with her? Because if so, she had no qualms about settling it herself.
However, he had walked off to examine the inn before she had the chance to confront him about whatever it was the giant of a man had said to Rayne, who promptly settled her cloak over a now-sleeping Ede.
Again, the thought of moving ahead alone crossed her mind, but she forced it from her thoughts. She couldn't be bothered to make such a decision now.
She walked to the inn, picking a spot that was a yard or so away from Ede, and sat with her back to the wall. There was nothing stopping her from resting her eyes while the other two swept the building.

Katrin started for the door before him, but he was, indeed, right behind her. The sight of a thick dust covering was a promising sign, and the footprints in the dirty floor were uniform, and seemed to be the right size for Katrin. Just for confirmation, he asked, "Are the footprints from your previous stay?"
Sorry about the posting vacation, this month has been hectic at work to say the least. I can hear Dota and Banette now telling me: "No excuses!" Banette, you should probably just post next to respond, and, unless there's any objection, feel free to just time-skip as necessary to move things along.

"Yes, they are. I was debating fixing this inn up and making it my permanent home, but..."
She laughed softly, setting her halberd down by the door frame. "I'm still a child. I can't run an inn, much less maintain one in the middle of nowhere."
She moved to light an old lantern near the end of the bar, then turned to Doran.
"The rooms are down that corner hallway. The sheets should still be clean from when I was last here..."
A month went by at a fairly quick pace; Katrin took some time to hunt for food and clean things up, as well as care for the others. While she welcomed Doran's and Rayne's help whenever they wished to offer it, she had no problems with taking responsibilities on herself.
On this particular morning, she had woken up with the dawn, and was preparing the rest of the meat from her latest hunt as a breakfast for the others. She wasn't sure what else she could make (she was sure that whatever hadn't been eaten by rodents was fairly rotted by now) so she stuck with what was safe.
Scarlette, in the meantime, seemed to be on edge, despite the relative calm. Her recent nights' rest did nothing to restore her strength. In fact, it seemed to be quite the opposite -- each night, she was plagued by hellish visions of that blindfolded woman, along with memories of that damned day...
The rapier-wielder's skin had gotten increasingly ashen, even in the short amount of time they had spent here; her eyes were bloodshot, and the dark circles around them betrayed her fatigue.
She was sitting at one of the tables, her head resting on the palm of one hand as she reluctantly awaited her meal. Truthfully, her appetite had left her days ago, but Katrin insisted that she eat, regardless.
No worries, man. I can understand. Some less-than-favorable occurences have been popping up lately, and needless to say my RPing inspiration has been suffering for it.

In the time that passed, Ede's arm had healed rather well. After their first night's stay, she had awoken to the alarming realization that her arm was refusing to bend. These days, however, she could make use of it almost entirely, save for wielding her garrote efficiently. As a consequence, Ede had spent much of her time making sure her proficiency with her right hand made up for her lack of dual-wielding. It was hard to practice confidently with Doran constantly looming in the background, always silent and always looking disapproving or unamused (whether or not he meant to come off this way, she couldn't really tell).
Ede's German vocabulary was also increasing. This wasn't an easy accomplishment, considering she was doing so by means of her less-than-perfect French, but she welcomed the chance to be able to at least somewhat communicate with both her body guard and Katrin all the same. There were times when she felt her native language might be eclipsed by the two western tongues that were presently dominating her life, so she spent some nights before bed quietly humming familiar songs of her land to herself, running the words through her mind. Those were the moments she felt the most alone.
Scarlette had seemed to be suffering from some sort of illness. Any inquiry from the girl, however, resulted in a mere brushing off of the matter. This didn't really surprise Ede. Well, if Scarlette desired help, she could ask. Ede wouldn't continuously nag, though she did find different ways to bring the up the topic when it became apparent that the woman was not getting better. Ede had to think about herself, and her need to move on, though. She was thankful for this opportunity to recuperate, but how long would Doran entertain playing house before reaching his limit? She had paid him to journey with her, but she was no longer doing so. It wasn't like she had intended to stay in this foreign countryside forever, either. As if he'd read her thoughts, Doran had announced he would be seeking out a new horse from one of the outlying farms of the town they had traveled from (or fled from...). This, of course, meant Ede would have to travel with him in the early hours of dawn since she was not to be far from his side. At least she'd be returning to Katrin's cooking.

Without really being able to account for how time had gotten away from him, Doran realized that a month had passed since their arrival at the broken-down inn. Though the outer facade hadn't seen any improvement, the inside had been made quite livable, and the days passed blissfully uneventfully as he monitored Ede's recovery. If he were completely honest with himself, he would have to admit that she had been travel-ready for at least two weeks now. But to admit that would be to admit his lack of confidence in his ability to protect her. After their ill-fated midnight encounter, he was loathe to put her in harm's way once more. And so, the days passed as they lived quietly, hunting what food they could and working on her German and his French (without a doubt, she was having much more success than he).
He was honestly surprised that Scarlette stayed that long. Of all of them, she had seemed the most eager to travel, the most focused on her goal, and yet she remained. The whole time though, she seemed separate. While she didn't outright ignore them, she never really allowed herself to be fully included in the group--not that Doran made an outstanding effort to extend the olive branch. Despite his initial reluctance of a month ago, however, Doran had found himself sufficiently fond of Katrin, and even Rayne was agreeable enough, if frequently aggravating.
Still, in the back of his mind, he knew that these peaceful days could not continue indefinitely. Late at night, as he lay alone (far too modest to share a room with any of the women), he berated himself for his hesitation, knowing that his kinsmen were counting on him. Finally, thirty days after their arrival, he announced that he and Ede would be leaving to buy a horse early the next morning. Their journey would continue.
As Katrin was serving a reluctant Scarlette her breakfast, they were absent, having left a few hours ago as dawn broke.

Rayne had made herself at home over the last month. She was able to drop her guard with her new allies. A lot of her time was spent with Ede. She did her best to take care of the girl's injured arm, although time was really the main thing that it needed. She also helped to teach her some German. The girl was a quick learner. If this kept up she would work herself out of a job.
In addition to Ede, Rayne ended up spending quite a bit of time with Katrin. Despite blaming her for the lizard men ambush, the rogue's opinion of the newcomer completely changed as the month progressed. On more than one occasion Rayne had gone out hunting with Katrin and helped her around the inn wherever she could.
Rayne decided to stay with the other two girls while Doran and Ede went out to get a horse. The two of them really hadn't had any time to talk alone since Scarlette and herself had joined their group. It would also provide a great opportunity for Ede to practice her German without the crutch of a translator nearby. As Katrin began making breakfast Rayne went out to pick some of the wild edibles from the area. She grabbed some for their last meal at the inn as well as some for their trip ahead.

Katrin set down a plate of food for the fencer, and another for Rayne; she wasn't quite hungry herself, and would more than likely eat once Ede and Doran had returned.
As she sat across from Scarlette (who was picking at her food disinterestedly), she frowned worriedly, studying the older woman's face.
"Still not eating? You will grow sick if you do not remain well-fed..."
Was the younger girl really going to bring this up again? How many times must she dismiss the matter before the others stopped discussing it?
The French woman looked up slowly, then shrugged carelessly.
"Not hungry. Have no appetite."
As she looked down again, she pushed the meat around with her fork, and frowned. At this rate, she was going to have to force it down, only to cough it up again when no one was in view -- if only to quiet Katrin's annoying (if well-intentioned) reminders.

When one falls off of a horse, they are expected to get back on. In Ede's case, she hadn't quite fallen off the horse (she had fallen from the cart whilst trying to get on the horse), but the saying still mostly applied here. Doran had coaxed the girl onto the animal for the duration of the ride back. This was an impressive feat, since they could still share only a few words. She had only agreed once it became apparent that Doran would be leading the horse. The animal was pulling a new cart behind it, with 'new' being in the sense that they had found a replacement. The cart was actually in need of a few repairs before it'd be hauling the party around. Ede felt the weight of her coin purse beneath her robes. It was certainly becoming low. This would only become a problem if they were to continually flee from towns.
After some time, Ede began to better recognize the scenery around them -- they were very near to "home". At this point, she was rather hungry, so she hoped there was something left to eat, warm or cold. While they still had some privacy, she tried to get in a few words about the trip ahead of them. She spoke timidly, both because she knew she was massacring his mother tongue, and because Doran was inherently large and intimidating.
"Wer...mit uns..." she searched for a verb, sifting through a vocabulary that rang through her head in Rayne's voice, "Ge-gehen? Und!" Ede was added the 'and' hastily so she could get out one more question and be done with this difficult task. "...und, wir gehen Târgșor?"

Doran nodded in response to Ede's query, confirming by repeating, "Târgșor." In response to her first question, he spoke a bit slower than normal, consciously using simple vocabulary where he could.
"Rayne will almost certainly come with us. Scarlette wanted to go there originally, so I assume she will be as well. As for Katrin, I am not as certain. She has never spoken of any particular destination, but I get the impression that she does not want to be alone, either."
Hopefully Ede could comprehend enough context to understand the full message being conveyed. Regardless, they would find out soon, as the party's "home" of the last few months came into view at the crest of a small rise.
