Dota's plan worked flawlessly. Trunks was too worried about losing his defense that he didn't notice her hop back to her feet.
The energy flowed again around his hands as she threw the two blades of ice. Trunks didn't sense anything about them that worried him. With his right hand he swatted at it with his backhand assuming he would just cast it away. It was that moment that he realized his mistake. Trunks flew back slamming into the ground 50 feet behind.

Not wanting to squander her momentary gain, Dota took off through the aftermath of the explosion after Trunks. She flew higher into the air as she approached him -- higher than what seemed to be necessary. As she reached him, however, Dota suddenly dropped sharply to the ground, a single heel aimed to smash into the saiyajin's torso.

Trunks landed hard. The ringing in his ears was proof of that. He didn't have long to recoup before instinct told him to open his eyes.
The Saiyan prince rolled onto his stomach at the last possible second. Before Dota would have a chance to dig her feet from the earth his wings shot out from his back in an attempt to bring her down to his level. If all went according to plan he would stand back up and get back on the defensive.

The ground buckled under Dota's foot, cracking and giving way as she dug in. Frost crawled up the dirt in a web-like fashion. She'd missed, and before she could react, Trunks batted her away with his wings. She stumbled back and crouched low to keep from completely tumbling over. This bought him the time he needed to stand.
It would have been best to spring right back towards him; however, Dota had regretted chasing after Trunks twice already. She hadn't expected him to utilize his wings outside of flight (this probably stemmed from an arrogant view that he hadn't spent his life dealing with them). She was wary of him now, which meant she was hesitating. But, it looked as though he'd elected to remain defensive at least as he rose, rather than dashing at her immediately.
Dota spit some blood from her lip off to the side, though her eyes never left Trunks. She sized him up, contemplating a better course of action.

Trunks folded his wings neatly against his back. He held his fists up in a typical boxing stance dancing on his balls of his feet. Dota wanted a fight. He couldn't be afraid of getting up close and personal with her.
He took steps toward her. As he did his aura faded from around him. The only thing keeping his purple hair off his shoulders was the wind rolling off the plains. Dota would detect no hidden energy attack or spike in energy. There would be no hidden kaio-ken. If she didn't react Trunks would step in close enough for jab-jab right hook.

Dota watched Trunks take the time to deliberately fold his wings back. Though he may not have intended for it, she took note that he had the large body-spanning variety standard for angelic beings.
Tch
Her own wings involuntarily twitched, which probably looked like nothing more than a byproduct of her muscles tensing in anticipation of the next move.
She had expected him to instantaneously appear just as he was landing a blow, but instead he took the mundane route. She stood as he began to advance, taking a few steps back in time with his approach. She continued to anticipate a sudden burst of energy and took up a typical defensive stance when he was too close. They really were going back to the basics. She raised her fists to block the jabs in a high guard position, but when he swiped his right fist, she dropped to the ground for a full sweep at his feet, aiming to knock them right out from under him while simultaneously avoiding the hook.

Trunks had his back foot off the ground slightly so he could put all that he had into his right hook. So when Dota took out his feet he had even less help keep himself upright. Trunks fell with a thud. Typically this is when the opponent came in for a finishing blow. A quick strike to the face or neck. Not wanting that to happen, Trunks immediately kicked up to his feet and in the process used this wings to his advantage. As soon as he landed on his feet they spread out. Trunks spun on the heels of his feet. His wings were longer than his arms so hopefully this would give him some much needed room. This was all assuming she stood up after the sweep. He was moving too fast to even think about that now.

Before Trunks could even thud against the ground, Dota sprang up from her attack, leaping over the saiyajin and twisting mid-air so that she landed standing at his head. She might have struck him there in the head, but he was quick enough to get to his feet, so Dota was actually facing his back by the time she was fully situated. Trunks's wings snapped open as he regained his footing, making them an easy target for the Ice Goddess. Her brother had taught her to go for the wings, beating the lesson into her in such a merciless fashion that she went for them now instincutally. Trunks's weight shifted -- he was going to spin around, most likely to face her. She made a grab for the wing that would be in the inside of his turn. Then, two things happened: Trunks spun at Dota. Dota yanked Trunks's wing. The force of her pull would be the opposite direction his body was moving, so that his own force helped to tug painfully down to the base where the extra appendage met his back. It was a risky move that left her open. There was no certainty that Trunks would have the same neural network extending into his wings that she was used to. And even if he did, there was always the chance of a reflexive strike before the real pain set in. This all might cross her mind later, but at the moment, the feathers were far too inviting. If there was any loss of balance on his part, she'd try to yank him back down to the ground.
Despite her contact with Trunks, Dota did not make a conscious effort to freeze his tissue (though her hands were naturally cold). This was probably due to her calling upon a move set that predated such an ability.

In his mind Trunks batted Dota away with ease. She realized the errors of her ways and decided to leave him alone.
In reality the Ice Goddess had grabbed onto his wing and Trunks was realizing more and more that he hated fighting this close. It wasn't that what she was doing hurt. It felt like she was pulling his arm. He just hated that he couldn't do a lot about it and didn't want her icy fingers touching him.
Trunks stumbled a bit at the initial tug. Then, without any other hesitation, he attempted to take off into the air. He put enough force behind his takeoff that he could lift Dota along with him. The question was whether or not she came along for the ride. If she did stay attached he would do every maneuver he could think of to get her off his back. If not he would distance himself so he could come back in for an attack.
Most likely though Trunks would remain grounded with his face in the dirt and Dota trying to rip off his wing.
(Feel free to face plant me as you see fit. I came up with this great flying away plan and then realized while typing that you could easily just toss me into the ground.)

It hadn't been outside of the realm of possibility that Trunks's wings wouldn't be a solid weak point, but it had been unexpected (and unfair, as far as she was concerned). Dota simply wasn't prepared for this outcome, so when Trunks leapt into the air, she was easily pulled along for the ride. She didn't try to cling to him, though, so his first forceful maneuver was enough to get her to let go. She spun back through the air, releasing a volley of arm-sized ice spears. Not wanting to waste the time it would take to stop and aim, Dota merely launched the projectiles in her full 360 degree spin, though the spears only laid on a flat horizontal plane (meaning it wouldn't take much movement up or down to avoid them). It was an excessive move, since a large portion of her effort would stab uselessly into ground, boulders and trees in the area.
