Ede's German was still far from anything that could even begin to be considered fluent. She glanced back at the cart where Rayne sat, realizing she wouldn't have her interpreter-crutch to lean on for this private exchange.
"I do not like asking this of you, but we make poor time. Buying another horse--two if possible--would cut our travel time significantly."
She had learned not to dwell on any one part of a sentence -- she needed to take in as much as possible to use as clues to help her puzzle together what Doran and Katrin meant. This was a prime example. Ede was at a loss for his opening statement...He was not to ask of her creating inadequate time...? She was at least familiar with "horse", and when the numbers were thrown in, she thought she had an idea of what he wanted.
The girl tried to process this all quickly enough so that she could move on to formulating a response, rather than making Doran stand in an idle silence.
"Du...wollen...pferd" (she might have had a noticeable accent in her French, but Ede's foreign accent when attempting German was downright thick enough to be swallowed up in).
She paused, shifting uncomfortably. It was true that Doran had waved off his fees, which greatly helped in continuing to build her trust for him as a decent individual. Ede had learned long ago that a person would do ugly things for the love of money and power. Even if Doran would not grow suspicious of her ability to produce whatever he asked for, surely the others would start wondering where this magical source lay.
"Ich brauche...Markt."

The trip to the next town was rather uneventful for Rayne. She talked to whomever wanted to strike a conversation and did her share of walk and controlling the horse. When Doran pulled Ede aside Rayne steered the horse away from them a bit. They needed their privacy and although Rayne desperately wanted to know what they were talking about she knew better than to upset Doran.
As they spoke Rayne reached down to her belt. She realized that some of her daggers were missing, oh and her crossbow was missing. Hopefully, she could 'obtain' another.

Scarlette was silent throughout much of the trip. She didn't want to talk with any of the others, knowing that the conversation would inevitably turn to her condition; if there was anything she wanted to avoid speaking about, it was that.
Katrin, on the other hand, was more than content with speaking with Rayne, and occasionally Ede and Doran. Whatever time wasn't spent conversing with the others was spent resting -- an astonishing feat, considering what little room there was in the back of the cart to properly relax.
She was just beginning to wake up from her latest nap, and looked about to see Ede and Doran walking a short distance behind the cart. She yawned quietly, then called out to the thief.
"Are Sir Doran and Miss Ede talking about something important, Miss Rayne?"

At Ede's slow and stilted response, Doran was somewhat abashed. Her German had been progressing so well over the last month, and they had been traveling together so long, that he had spoken at full speed without even considering who he was talking to. He took much more care in his response.
"I will send Rayne or Katrin with you." Giving her a moment, he prompted a nod of understanding from her before motioning her back to the cart. Rayne and Katrin he could speak to much more conversationally.
"If we can find a nearby farmhouse, we might be able to spend the night in the hayloft in exchange for a little labor. Let's try to find something like that first, but then I'd like one of you to accompany Ede into town for a little shopping."

"I will send Rayne or Katrin with you."
Ede hesitated. She didn't want anyone accompanying her, though she knew it would be impossible otherwise. There was no doubt she needed some sort of native speaker at her side. That, and Doran would never let wander out of sight, even if he had to use a borrowed set of eyes. He must have taken one of her hesitant shifts as a nod of agreement, for he turned to return to the cart. Ede almost called after him to stop, but gave up at the thought of trying to form her explanation in German with no assistance. Then, it was too late, for Doran was already explaining the situation.
"...I'd like one of you to accompany Ede into town for a little shopping."
All she could do now was wait to see which of the two women would be accompanying her.

"Are Sir Doran and Miss Ede talking about something important, Miss Rayne?"
Rayne gave a casual shrug.
"I actually don't know, but Doran pulled her aside so I wanted to give them their privacy. If we are meant to know then he'll tell us."
As if on command Doran walked over.
"If we can find a nearby farmhouse, we might be able to spend the night in the hayloft in exchange for a little labor. Let's try to find something like that first, but then I'd like one of you to accompany Ede into town for a little shopping."
Rayne was eager to speak up.
"I'll definitely help. I need to see if I can buy some more daggers while I'm there."

Katrin was going to volunteer for the privilege of accompanying Ede, but Rayne managed to speak first. It didn't stop her from chiming in after the fact, however.
"If you would allow it, I'd like to come along as well. I understand if you'd rather only travel with one person, however..."
She was interested in looking around for some dried meats and other foodstuffs. She didn't have much in the way of money, but she wanted to at least contribute a little.
They were going to stop at another town, it seemed. This was both a relief and an annoyance; they could gather whatever supplies they could, but doing so was taking away time that they could be used looking for the sword...
But, if it had to be done, she would go along with it, despite her impatience. After all, this means of transportation was certainly much faster than her alternative.

Doran nodded to the two girls. "If you'd like. The more with her, the better.
"I'll be finding us lodging for the night. One of these farmhouses," he indicated the several spread out over the wide hilltop they occupied, "will likely lend us a stable or hayloft for the night in exchange for some labor. We can meet back here in two hours--you take the horse."
With their agreement, he started toward the nearest farm. Passing Scarlette on the way, he tried to motion that she could come with him or go with the others, then continued on his way after giving her a few seconds to think about it.

Both of them. Why not throw in Scarlette while you're at it?
She almost sighed in defeat, but despite her irritation, Ede's expression remained smooth and calm. She also didn't like that Doran was solely taking on the burden of working for all of their beds, but reasoned she was doing her own part to help. Staying behind to argue with him would accomplish nothing, anyways. She nodded her readiness to Rayne and Katrin, then walked over to take the horse by the halter and give it a few reassuring strokes on the nose. She spoke gentle, soothing words to it in her native tongue. Having understood Doran's suggestion to take the animal, she started to remove the cart, something she had observed the others doing enough, but had not attempted on her own up until this point.

Rayne nodded to him as she turned towards the horse. Ede was already getting the horse removed from the cart. Her first reaction was to immediately jump in and try to help out, but she left it to Ede. She seemed to have a connection with this horse so she would leave it be. For now Rayne just pretended to take stock of all of her items even though she knew full well what she had on her.
